From March 22 to 29, 2025, Zambia witnessed a transformative Bitcoin Education Week, spearheaded by renowned Bitcoin educator Anita Posch and supported by the non-profit initiative, Bitcoin for Fairness (BFF). In collaboration with Bitcoin Zambia, a local educational hub inspired by BFF’s earlier work, the week-long series of events aimed to deepen understanding and practical use of Bitcoin among Zambians.
March 22 – Community Meetup at Scallywags
The week commenced with a vibrant gathering at Scallywags Restaurant in Lusaka. Both seasoned Bitcoin enthusiasts and newcomers convened to share experiences, discuss Bitcoin’s impact in Zambia, and explore its potential for financial empowerment.
March 25 – Exploring Bitcoin Mining Operations
Participants had the unique opportunity to visit a local Bitcoin mining facility, gaining firsthand insight into the proof-of-work mechanism. The visit concluded with a communal braai, fostering informal discussions on energy, sovereignty, and innovation.
March 26 – Inaugural Developers Meetup at AfricaWorks
Marking a significant milestone, Zambia hosted its first developers meetup at AfricaWorks. Developers and tech enthusiasts engaged in deep technical discussions about Bitcoin’s inner workings, security models, and the crucial role African developers play in the global Bitcoin ecosystem.
March 27 – Empowering Youth at Bitcoin Campus Zambia
The educational journey continued with a meetup at Bitcoin Campus Zambia, where students delved into Bitcoin fundamentals and financial empowerment. Attendees downloaded the Aqua Wallet and received satoshis, providing a practical introduction to using Bitcoin and the Lightning Network.
March 29 – Women’s Workshop by Bitcoin Banamayo
Concluding the week, a dynamic workshop led by Bitcoin Banamayo—a women-focused Bitcoin education initiative—brought together 21 women eager to learn about Bitcoin. Guided by local educators Natasha, Tamara, and Tilo, participants engaged in hands-on learning, many receiving satoshis for the first time using the Aqua Wallet.
