Practical Education. Local Impact. Real Community.
Bitcoin Zambia focuses on grassroots action that makes Bitcoin real and relevant for everyday Zambians. Our work includes:
Meetups & Community Building
Since 2022, Bitcoin Zambia has been organizing monthly meetups in Lusaka, laying the foundation for a strong, grassroots Bitcoin community. These events have become a cornerstone for collaborative learning, resource sharing, and nurturing a decentralized network of Bitcoin enthusiasts, developers, and educators across the country.Developer Engagement
BitDevs Zambia is our initiative to grow a vibrant community of Bitcoin developers in the country. With support from Bitcoin for Fairness, we hosted Zambia’s first Bitcoin developer meetup — creating a space for technical learning, open discussion, and innovation around Bitcoin.
To coordinate and grow this effort, we’ve launched BitDevs Zambia — a dedicated platform to organize Socratic Seminars and other developer-focused events that foster deep technical understanding and collaboration.
Workshops & Training
• Bitcoin Workshop for Women – A Bitcoin workshop for 21 women in March 2025 that took place in Lusaka, Zambia.
• Trezor Academy – We have run two Trezor Academy workshops in Lusaka, Zambia.
• Liquid Network – We held the first Blockstream Liquid workshops in Zambia.
• Freedom Money Workshop – Bitcoin Zambia supported Anita Posch, who was the main facilitator of the Freedom Money Workshop. The event educated 50 human rights activists from across Africa on Bitcoin fundamentals and its role in advancing financial freedom.
• Journalist Training – A dedicated Bitcoin fundamentals workshop for Zambian journalists.
Bitcoin Mining Education
We’ve organized two community educational tours of Quantum Hash active Bitcoin mining site outside Lusaka, offering hands-on learning to demystify the mining process.
To commemorate Bitcoin Halving Day 2024, Bitcoin Zambia hosted the founders of Quantum Hash for a special event that connected the local community with real-world mining operations and highlighted the significance of the halving event.
Pass it On Book Club
With support from Bitcoin for Fairness, we locally printed 20 copies of “(L)earn Bitcoin” by Anita Posch. Each book is passed from one reader to the next, sparking grassroots conversations and building practical understanding of Bitcoin across our communities.
Media Outreach & Public Lectures
Since Anita Posch’s first Bitcoin education tour of Zambia in 2022, we’ve actively facilitated her media engagement as a global Bitcoin educator — supporting her appearances on radio, TV, social media, and in newspapers. We also coordinate and promote her public talks and university lectures, ensuring her message reaches diverse audiences across the country.
Cross-Community Collaboration
We actively collaborate with local sister communities like Bitcoin Banamayo, Bitcoin Her, Bitcoin Campus, Bantu Bitcoin, and Bitcoin Victoria Falls to share knowledge and amplify impact.
On Africa Bitcoin Day 2023, Bitcoin Zambia and the Bitcoin Banamayo Community took part in the celebrations held in Lusaka, joining a continent-wide recognition of Bitcoin’s growing relevance and adoption across Africa. The day involved street Bitcoin education that took place along Cairo Road — one of the busiest roads in Lusaka CBD — where volunteers engaged passersby with Bitcoin flyers, conversations, and demos.
Digital Community Spaces
We host two active WhatsApp groups — one for the wider Bitcoin Zambia community and another specifically for developers, called BitDevs Zambia. These spaces serve as daily hubs for conversation, resource sharing, coordination, and peer learning.
BarberBTC Program (Pilot Phase Begins May 2025)
The BarberBTC Program is a grassroots initiative that transforms local barbershops into informal hubs for Bitcoin education. In this pilot phase, we are training barbers to become Bitcoin ambassadors — equipping them with the knowledge and tools to introduce Bitcoin to their clients through everyday conversations. Barbershops are trusted community spaces and natural gathering points.
